Why I built BNKZ
Something annoyed me. Again and again.
You just want to merge two PDFs quickly. Two minutes of work, really. And then you are told: Create an account. Confirm your email. Buy a subscription. Upload your file to a server that belongs to someone else.
Knowledge belongs to everyone. So do tools.
01How it usually goes
A tool turns into a business model
Sometimes it is even worse: a site full of ads and trackers that asks you to pay after three files a day. Then the tool is only the bait. You pay with your data, your time or your money.
The usual way
- Create an account
- Enter your email address
- Buy a subscription
- Close the cookie banner
- Upload your file and hope
The way it works here
- Open the page
- Use the tool
- Done. Nothing more.
I wanted it to be different.
02Built it myself
Good tools belong to everyone
So I started building BNKZ. Tool by tool. Not because the world needs one more platform. But because today, good digital tools should be open to everyone.
- 01Without registration. No account, no password, no email address. You open the page and get started.
- 02Without a subscription. There is nothing to buy here. And no trial period that quietly turns into a bill at some point.
- 03Without hidden costs. No daily limit that you then have to pay to lift. No paid tier.
- 04And without turning your data into the product.Your files do not leave your browser. I do not build a profile of you.
03The aim
The internet can work differently, too.
Today your browser can merge PDFs, resize images and encrypt files. Without installing anything and without a server that reads along. A few years ago that was hard to imagine.
This should not benefit only the people who buy yet another subscription for every small tool. It should benefit everyone.
The same tools for everyone.
No credit card, no account, no reason needed.
- Student
- Retiree
- Freelancer
- Club
- Trades business
- Family
Need a tool?
Then use it.
Without registering. Without explaining what for. It should be that simple.
04My part
What is in my hands
I cannot change the big platforms. But I can decide what I build myself. That is why everything here follows one simple principle:
The principle
Tools should be there for people. Not people for the tools.
05My corner
A small corner of the internet
The internet is huge, loud and full of barriers. Register here, agree there, pay over there.
BNKZ is only a small corner of it. But it is my corner.
As long as I am able to, I will keep building here: tools that are open to everyone and cost nothing.
And here I follow different rules.
- 0UploadsYour files stay in your browser.
- 0CookiesNo banner, nothing to close.
- 0SubscriptionsNothing to buy, nothing to cancel.
- 0AdsNo ads, no third-party trackers.
06To be honest
What I promise. And what I do not.
The rules above apply. Here is what else I commit to. And where my limits are.
What I commit to
- What is free here will not move behind a paywall later.
- If a tool cannot do something, I say so. I do not pretend it can.
- You can check for yourself what I say about your data. The very bottom of this page explains how.
What I do not promise
- That BNKZ will exist forever. I will keep going as long as I can.
- That every tool can do everything. What would only work with a server does not exist here.
- That there will never be an error. I check a lot, but I miss things sometimes, too.
bnkz --rules
No account.
No subscription.
No bullshit.
Just tools that do what they are meant to do. For everyone who needs them.
BNKZ costs you nothing. And it stays that way.
If a tool saved you some time and you would like to buy me a coffee, I am happy about it. It is voluntary and you get nothing in return: the tools work the same for everyone. I cannot issue a donation receipt.
The button takes you to Revolut. There you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Revolut.
