Unit converter
Convert measures and quantities: length, weight, volume, temperature, area, speed, data size, time, pressure, energy, power and fuel consumption. You choose the quantity and two units, type the value and read the result.
Nothing is colder than absolute zero (−273.15 °C, 0 K).
Windows counts 1 GB as 1,024 MB, the standard and the makers of hard drives, phones and USB sticks as 1,000 MB. That is why Windows shows a 1 TB drive as 931 GB. Both calculations are correct, only the way of counting differs.
1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 foot = 30.48 cm, 1 mile = 1.609 km. These are fixed definitions.
lb is the pound of 453.6 g used in the USA and the UK, not the old German Pfund (500 g). 1 metric ton = 1,000 kg.
Cup, gallon and fluid ounce in American measures, as in American recipes. British gallons are larger (4.546 l).
0 °C = 32 °F = 273.15 K. Nothing gets colder than 0 K (−273.15 °C).
1 ha = 100 a = 10,000 m². 1 km² = 100 ha. An acre is 4,047 m², a square foot 929 cm².
1 knot = 1 nautical mile (1.852 km) per hour. 100 km/h = 27.78 m/s = 62.14 mph.
1 byte = 8 bits. Whether KB, MB, GB and TB count with 1,024 or 1,000, you set above.
A year counts 365 days here, a week 7 days. Months are left out on purpose: they are 28 to 31 days long.
1 bar = 1,000 mbar = 100,000 Pa = 14.5 psi. Tire pressure: 2.5 bar is about 36 psi. Blood pressure is measured in mmHg (millimeters of mercury).
1 kWh = 3,600 kJ. Calories as on food labels: 1 kcal = 4.184 kJ.
1 PS (metric horsepower, common in Germany) = 735.5 W. The British and American hp has 745.7 W and is not the same as PS. 100 kW = 136 PS.
l/100 km and km/l are reciprocals: half the consumption means twice the range. mpg counts miles per gallon: the American gallon has 3.785 l, the British (UK) one 4.546 l.

How it works
- 01Choose a quantity, such as length, temperature or data size.
- 02Type the value and choose the units “From” and “To”. The button between them swaps the two.
- 03The result appears at once. Each quantity has a direct link that takes you straight there, such as bnkz.de/en/calculator/units/#temperatur, bnkz.de/en/calculator/units/#daten or bnkz.de/en/calculator/units/#kraftstoff.
Example 1: inches to centimeters. One inch is exactly 2.54 cm. A screen of 10 inches therefore measures 10 × 2.54 = 25.4 cm across the diagonal.
Example 2: Fahrenheit to Celsius. Temperatures have an offset, so a simple factor is not enough: (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. 100 °F become (100 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 = 37.78 °C. The other way around, 0 °C = 32 °F = 273.15 K.
Example 3: power and consumption. 100 kW are 100 ÷ 0.7355 = 135.96 PS. Fuel consumption is a reciprocal: 7 l/100 km are 100 ÷ 7 = 14.3 km/l and 235.2 ÷ 7 = 33.6 mpg (American gallons).
The calculator knows twelve quantities. You do not have to work anything out in your head or look up factors, the calculator does it. The conversion factors are fixed definitions (1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 PS = 735.49875 W, 1 psi = 6,894.757 Pa), only three things are a way of counting and are therefore stated: Windows counts data sizes with 1,024, makers with 1,000 (switch); a year counts 365 days; calories are the ones on the food package (1 kcal = 4.184 kJ).
