For example copied from Excel (the columns are then separated by tabs) or from a text file. The table appears by itself when you paste.
Dates are recognized independently of this: DD.MM.YYYY or ISO (YYYY-MM-DD), both at the same time.
Text stays text if it begins with = + - @ (protection against formulas), has more than 15 digits or a leading zero.

How it works
- 01Choose the direction: load an Excel file and output it as a CSV, or load a CSV and output it as an Excel file.
- 02For Excel → CSV: choose the sheet, check the preview, set the output (delimiter, character encoding, decimal separator, date format, line ending).
- 03For CSV → Excel: the delimiter is detected, numbers and dates are recognized (not just saved as text), and the header becomes bold, frozen and gets an autofilter.
Excel → CSV. .xlsx and .xlsm are read. Old .xls files (the binary format from Excel 97 to 2003) are not understood by this page; save them once as .xlsx in Excel. A file encrypted with a password cannot be opened by this page either. The password would have to be removed in Excel first. Numbers are taken as Excel last saved them, without rounding errors from floating-point numbers. The page recognizes dates by the cell format and writes them into the CSV in the chosen format. Formulas show the last saved value, not the formula itself. If a file is opened without a saved value (this happens with some exports), the cell stays empty. Merged cells carry their value only in the first cell, the others stay empty, as in Excel. Up to 50 MB per file.
CSV → Excel. Numbers are read according to the chosen notation (German: 1.234,56 · English: 1,234.56) and saved as real numbers so that you can calculate with them in Excel. Dates (DD.MM.YYYY or ISO) become a real Excel date. Text that looks like a leading zero (01067), a very long digit sequence (more than 15 digits, such as account numbers) or a formula (starts with =, +, - or @) deliberately stays text. The four formula characters also get the same protection that Excel uses for “force as text”, so that they never turn into an executed formula. The file that is created is a validly built .xlsx (with all the internals Excel expects) and opens without a “Repair” message.
Limits. Cell colors, borders, charts, images and conditional formatting are lost in both directions. Only values, formulas as values and (for CSV → Excel) bold type, autofilter and frozen header stay. Excel itself already loses numbers with more than 15 digits when saving; this page does not change that. Nothing is calculated: formulas are never evaluated again.
