Menu and price list

Enter sections and items with prices, and tick the allergens and additives for food. The tool sets the codes and the legend itself. As a PDF in A4, A5 or as a large daily menu.

Applies to Germany. Deadlines, tax rates, public holidays and requirements on this page follow German law. Austria, Switzerland and other countries have different rules.
A template, not legal or tax adviceOnly you and your recipes, ingredient lists and delivery notes know which allergens and additives are in your dishes. The tool prints what you tick and checks none of it. Basics, as of September 2026, please verify: the 14 allergens under Annex II of the LMIV (EU Food Information Regulation), supplemented for unpackaged food by § 4 LMIDV; additives under § 5 of the Lebensmittelzusatzstoff-Durchführungsverordnung (LMZDV), “contains quinine” under § 5 of the Aromendurchführungsverordnung (AromenDV). If in doubt, ask your food inspection authority (Lebensmittelüberwachung) or your trade chamber.

What should it be?

Food and drinks with allergens and additives.

Header and footer

Appears small under the name, for example “Daily menu”, “Summer menu” or the date.

Logo (optional)

PNG or JPG (also WebP and GIF). It is scaled down here in your browser to at most 900 pixels and sits centered above the name.

Appears at the bottom of every page, at most 4 lines: address, opening hours, phone. The sentence “All prices in euros incl. VAT.” is already filled in.

Sections and items

A section is a part of the menu, such as starters or drinks. Empty items are simply left out. The arrows move a section or item up or down, the cross removes it; “Undo” brings back the one you removed last.

    Allergens and additives

There is no official letter scheme in Germany. All that matters is that the legend matches, and it builds itself. Additives get numbers from 1 to 14.

    Adjust codes and names

The name appears in the legend as written. For cereals containing gluten and tree nuts, the type belongs with it, for example “Cereals containing gluten: wheat” or “Tree nuts: hazelnut”. If the dishes differ, say so here, such as “wheat, barley in the lager”, or write the type into the description (as of September 2026, please verify). You can change codes when “Custom codes” is chosen above.

    Format

VAT in the price (for information only)

Prices on the menu are final prices including VAT (Umsatzsteuer). Default: 7% for food in restaurants (since January 1, 2026), 19% for drinks and services, as of September 2026, please verify. There are exceptions, such as milk drinks to go, and as a small business (Kleinunternehmer) you do not show tax. Which rate applies to you is a question for your tax advisor.

    How it works
    1. 01Choose menu or price list, enter the name and footer. An example is already in there: just write over it or start over.
    2. 02Create sections and items: name, description, quantity or duration, price. For food and drinks, tick the allergens and additives and choose vegetarian or vegan.
    3. 03Choose a format, check the preview, download the PDF. Save the menu as a file, and the next one is done in a minute.

Marking. After each dish the codes appear small and raised: first the allergens in the order of the LMIV, then the additives as numbers. The legend at the end of the menu lists only what actually occurs, in the same fixed order. If the menu has several pages, the other pages say at the bottom that the markings are explained at the end. For cereals containing gluten and tree nuts, the type belongs with it (such as wheat, hazelnut), in the legend or in the description; if it is missing, the page reminds you. If you turn the marking off, allergens and additives drop out together, because both must be provided through the same medium, and at the end the note about verbal information appears if you want it. Vegetarian and vegan appear as (V) and (VG) in parentheses, because the print font has no symbols. The tool does not check which allergens are in a dish; it does not replace checking your recipes.

Warnings and voluntary information. For the colorings E 102, E 104, E 110, E 122, E 124 and E 129, “with coloring” is not enough: the name or E number of the coloring belongs with it, and the sentence “May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children”, except for drinks with more than 1.2% alcohol (Art. 24 and Annex V of Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008). Soft drinks with more than 150 mg of caffeine per liter, such as energy drinks, need the sentence “High caffeine content. Not recommended for children and pregnant or breast-feeding women” on the menu, with the content in mg per 100 ml (§ 6 FrSaftErfrischGetrV). You write both into the description. “Sulfured”, “contains caffeine” and “with sugar and sweetener(s)” are no longer in LMZDV and AromenDV; some leaflets from food inspection authorities still mention them, and they are common. For sulfured dried fruit, “with preservative” or “with antioxidant” also belongs with it, and above 10 mg per kg also the allergen sulfur dioxide and sulfites. For cured meat the details from the list are enough; “with nitrite curing salt” may replace them but does not have to (§ 5 para. 1 no. 4 LMZDV). As of September 2026, please verify.

Drinks and prices. For drinks, the quantity belongs with the price, for example 0.3 l. If it is missing, the page warns you. You write prices like 12,50 or “ab 25”; calculation uses whole cents, and the menu shows “12,50 €”. Every item has one price; for small and large, create two items. VAT is part of the price, and the tool only works it out for information if you ask (rates as a field, as of September 2026, please verify).

Formats. A4 with one or two columns and A5 run over several pages when there are many items; a section heading never stands alone at the bottom of a page, and no item is split. You can print A5 singly, twice side by side on landscape A4 (with cut marks in the middle) or as a booklet, that is a folded leaflet: landscape A4, print double-sided, flip on the short edge, fold in the middle. Blank pages fill the booklet up to a multiple of four. The daily menu is meant for a few items: the type becomes as large as fits on one page, at most one and a half times and at least a good half the normal size. If it still does not fit, it runs over several pages and the page tells you.

Price list. For hair salon, beauty, workshop or repair service: instead of quantity it shows the duration, and there are no allergens. With “ab” before the price, the list shows “ab 45,00 €”.

Limits. Only the font Helvetica, which every PDF program knows, black on white, no decorative font and no background images: good for a daily menu and a price list, more of a draft for a designed evening menu. Emojis and characters outside the Western European fonts are missing in the font; the page names what is replaced or left out. At most 30 sections and 300 items, one price per item. A logo is scaled down to 900 pixels and may then be at most 2 MB.
