Math sheets
Math worksheets for elementary school with random problems: addition and subtraction, times tables, column method, number pyramids, clocks and units. Every sheet new, with an answer sheet, as a PDF.
Mental math in columns, with a line for the answer.
Never a 0 in a problem, never an answer below 1. At least one number is larger than 10.
With regrouping means: working digit by digit, a ten fills up (27 + 5) or has to be broken up (32 − 5). Without: each digit works on its own (23 + 5, 47 − 12).
Factors are always 1 to 10. A single table works too, for example only the 7.
Times in both directions (7 · 3 and 3 · 7). Divided are the inverse problems by the table: 21 : 7.
Two digits: two partial products stacked, the second shifted one place to the right, then added.
The largest number that appears, including the answer. Every number has at least two digits.
The top brick is at most this large.
Bottom: the bottom row is given, you work your way up. Scattered: single bricks anywhere; every pyramid can still be solved step by step, without an equation (the tool checks this).
Clock face with 12 hours. The answer gives both times of day in 24-hour format, such as 3:15 or 15:15.
km, m, cm, mm · t, kg, g · days, h, min, s · €, ct · l, ml
Simple: 3 m = _ cm and 300 cm = _ m. Two units: 3 m 25 cm = _ cm and 325 cm = _ m _ cm. Whole numbers only, no decimals.
Leave empty for the suggestion: Addition and subtraction up to 20
Suggested 40, at most 84 fit on a sheet.
Large for first graders: more room to write, but fewer problems per sheet.
1 to 20, each one rolled anew.
After each: every sheet is followed by its answers. If you print double-sided, the answers end up on the back; then “At the end” is better.
The preview appears right away.
When printing, choose “Actual size” or “100%”, not “Fit to page”, otherwise the squares are no longer 5 mm.
Saves exactly these problems as a JSON file on your device, so you can print the same sheet again later.
Goes well with: Graph and lined paper · Grade calculator (German) · Letters to school (German)
Nothing leaves this device. Problems and PDF are created here in your browser.
How it works
- 01Choose and set up the problems: number range, operation, tables. The preview shows the first sheet right away, and one click on “Answers” shows the answer sheet.
- 02Set the heading, the number of problems and the number of sheets. If you do not like a sheet, “Roll again”.
- 03Download the PDF and print it at “Actual size”. If you need the same sheet again later, save it as a file.
What it is. Simple random generators for practice problems: mental math, missing number problems, times tables, the column method, number pyramids, clocks and units. No curriculum and no assessment of learning progress. There are no word problems and no decimals. You decide which problems suit which grade. The sheets follow how math is written in German schools: · for times, : for divided, and the column method for multiplication as taught there.
Random without duplicates. No problem appears twice on a sheet, no number in a problem is 0 and no answer is negative or 0. If there are fewer different problems than you want (the 7 times table has only 19 multiplication problems), the sheet has fewer problems and the preview says so. Problems can repeat across several sheets. The randomness cannot be repeated: you only get the same sheet again via “Save sheet as file” and “Load from file”.
Regrouping means exactly this here: working digit by digit, there is a carry. 27 + 5 has one (7 + 5 = 12), 23 + 5 does not, 13 + 7 = 20 counts. For minus: in one place more has to be taken away than is there (32 − 5). Regrouping into the hundreds counts too (60 + 40). Up to 1000, the second number is always round (7, 40 or 300), so it stays mental math.
The column method (addition, subtraction, multiplication) is set on 5 mm squares like a math exercise book, every digit in exactly one square. Above the answer line there is an empty row for carried digits. The answer sheet shows the result, for multiplication the partial products and for addition the carried digits. For subtraction they are left out on purpose: schools teach different methods (taking away or counting up), and the carried digits sit in different places.
Limits. A4 portrait only. The number of problems per sheet has an upper limit so there is room to write; whatever does not fit is left out and reported. Clocks show 12 hours, so the answer gives both times of day. The heading is set in Helvetica: characters this font does not know (emoji, some letters of other languages) are left out and named at the field.
Nothing is stored. The page remembers neither settings nor sheets. The file from “Save sheet as file” contains the settings and the problems, no answers; the tool recalculates them when loading.
