Make and play a quiz
For birthday parties, school classes, club nights and family get-togethers: add questions with answers, show them full screen on a projector or TV, with a countdown and points for teams. Plus a worksheet, answer sheet, answer key and host cards as PDF.
Shown on the start screen and on every sheet. If you leave it empty, it says “Quiz”.
Questions
0 of 200No questions yet. Add the first one with “New question”, or load a CSV under “Spreadsheet” or a saved file below.
To change the order: drag by the handle on the left, or select the handle with the keyboard, press Space, move with the arrow keys and press Space again to drop.
Edit question
2 to 6 answers, one or more are correct.
At most 300 characters.
You can tick more than one. How that is scored is set under “Play”.
Up to 6 spellings, such as “60” and “sixty”. When you reveal the answer, all of them are shown; you decide whether an answer counts when you score.
For example 2962 or 1.5. Whoever is closest wins.
1 to 10
5 to 300, empty for no countdown
JPG, PNG or WebP. The tool shrinks it to at most 1600 pixels and keeps only the pixels, no camera data and no location. It is kept only in the memory of this tab.
1 to 20 names, each at most 40 characters. A running game keeps its teams; new ones apply from “Start game”.
1 to 999999. The same no. and the same questions give the same order, in the game and on paper.
Points only when exactly all correct answers are chosen.
Score
During the game: Space or right arrow goes on (if you moved to a button with the Tab key, Space presses that button), left arrow goes back, A reveals, T starts and pauses the countdown, Esc ends. The score stays in memory until you close the page; “Save game” stores it as a file, for a break for example.
All questions with boxes to tick and lines to write on.
Questions and answers appear in the order set under “Play”. With a shuffled order, the no. is printed at the bottom of every sheet.
The preview appears as soon as there is a finished question.
A4 portrait. Text and lines in black on white, printed pictures in their own colors. The PDF is made here in your browser. If children’s names are in the title or the teams, they are in the PDF too.
Bring in questions from Excel, LibreOffice or a CSV file. Columns: Type; Question; Answer 1 to Answer 6; Correct; Points; Category; Time. The easiest way: download the template below, fill it in and load it here again.
Copy rows from your spreadsheet and paste them here. The tool detects semicolons, commas and tabs by itself; a header row is fine.
How to fill in the columns
Type: Multiple choice, True/False, Free text or Estimate.
Answer 1 to 6: for multiple choice the answers (at least two, no gaps), for free text the accepted spellings. For an estimate, Answer 1 may hold the unit.
Correct: for multiple choice the number of the correct answer, several separated by commas (1,3), or its text. If the answers are numbers themselves (6, 8, 4, 2), a number here counts as the answer number: 2 means the second answer, so 8. For True/False “true” or “false”. For an estimate the number, with a unit if you like (8849 m). For free text, leave the column empty or add more spellings, separated by |.
Points: 1 to 10, empty means 1. Time: 5 to 300 seconds, empty means no countdown.
The tool skips rows with errors and lists them by number; the others are added. At most 200 questions. Pictures are not in the CSV, only in the file from “Save as file”. Cells that start with = + - or @ get an apostrophe in front when exported, so Excel does not run them as a formula; it is removed again when you load the file here.
The German column names and types from the German version of this page work here too.
The page does not save anything by itself. “Save as file” creates a JSON file on your device: with the title, questions, pictures, team names and settings, and with the score if a game is running. If you pass the file on, you pass the pictures on too.
Goes well with: Crossword (German) · Word search (German) · All kids tools
Nothing leaves this device. Questions, pictures, names and the PDF are made here in your browser, nothing is saved.
How it works
- 01Under “Questions”, type a title and add questions. Each question has a type, points, a time and, if you like, a category and a picture.
- 02Under “Play”, enter the teams and press “Start game”. The questions appear full screen, easy to read on a projector or TV.
- 03After each question press “Reveal”, then tap which team got it right. The tool counts the points, and the ranking is shown at the end.
Question types. Multiple choice: 2 to 6 answers with the letters A to F, one or more correct. True/False: a statement that is true or not. Free text: the teams give the answer themselves; you set up to 6 accepted spellings and decide when scoring whether an answer counts. Estimate: a number, with a unit if you like. You type in each team’s estimate, whoever is closest gets the points; in a tie, everyone who is equally close.
Scoring. Below each question there is one row per team. For most questions you tap “Correct”, and the question’s points are added. With −1 and +1 you add or take away points by hand, for a half right answer for example. If you go back to a question and change something, the tool recalculates the score. With several correct answers, the setting under “Play” applies: All or nothing gives the points only for exactly all correct answers. Partial credit lets you tap, for each team, which letters it chose: each correct one counts plus one, each wrong one minus one, not below zero, and that is divided by the number of correct answers, times the points. With 3 correct answers and 3 points, two correct and one wrong give 1 point. This can result in a decimal number.
Ranking. Whoever has more points ranks higher. Equal points mean the same place; the next place then counts on (1, 1, 3). The “Score” button shows the current score at any time.
Full screen. The game opens in the browser’s full screen mode. If that is not possible (on an iPhone for example), it fills the window. The text grows with the screen. Esc ends full screen and the game; the score is kept, and “Continue game” picks up where you left off.
Countdown and sound. Each question has its own time from 5 to 300 seconds, or none. The countdown runs as long as this tab is open. The sound at the end is off until you turn it on; the browser makes it itself, no sound file is loaded.
Shuffled with a no. With a shuffled order, the no. decides the order of the questions and, if turned on, of the answers. The same no. and the same questions give the same order, also on the worksheet, answer sheet, answer key and cards. That way the answer key matches the projector. If you change questions, the order changes too.
Printing. The worksheet has all questions with boxes to tick and lines to write on, for school for example. The answer sheet is for teams that answer on paper while the game runs on the projector: one sheet per team with numbers, boxes and a column for the points. The answer key gives the correct answer and the points for each question. The host cards are for you: four per sheet with crop marks, the correct answer with a check mark. If a long question does not fit on the card, the tool makes the text smaller and, if needed, leaves out the picture; a note above the download then says so.
Limits. At most 200 questions and 20 teams. The PDF uses Helvetica: characters this font does not know (emoji, some letters of other languages like ł) are dropped in print; the tool lists them above the download. On screen in the game they are shown. Pictures in HEIC format (from an iPhone) cannot be read by the browser here; save them as JPG first. From 20 MB of pictures in total the tool warns you, because the file then gets large and slow.
Privacy. Photos and names of children are personal data. Here they do not leave the device: the page remembers nothing, uploads nothing and sends nothing. The file from “Save as file” and the PDF are made only on your device, with everything you entered. Photos of other children need their parents’ consent; a sample form is available under photo consent (in German).
