Deadline calculator for everyday life

Until when can you withdraw from an order, claim a defect or cancel your phone contract? Enter a date and the deadline appears, with weekends and the public holidays of your German state. As a calendar file with a reminder.

Legal status: 08.10.2026

If a deadline ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it only ends on the next working day.

With several parcels the last one counts. For a service or an online subscription, the day the contract was made.

Did you get a withdrawal notice?
Withdrawal possible up to and including–

Goes well with: Write a cancellation letter (German) · Notice period for job and flat (German) · Days between two dates

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your dates and the calendar file stay on your device, nothing is stored.

How it is calculated

Basic rule. The day something happens (goods arrive, a letter arrives) does not count (§ 187 BGB, the German Civil Code). A deadline in days ends at midnight on the last day. A deadline in weeks or months ends on the day with the same number or the same weekday; if that day does not exist in the month, on the last day of the month (§ 188 BGB). If a deadline in which you have to make a declaration ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it ends on the next working day (§ 193 BGB). Public holidays that only apply in part of a state do not move anything here.

Withdrawal. 14 days for purchases online, by phone or at the door (§ 355 BGB). The period starts when you receive the goods (§ 356 (2) BGB). Without a correct notice the right expires 12 months and 14 days later (§ 356 (3) BGB). Sending the withdrawal in time is enough. Example: goods received on 08.10.2026, withdrawal until 22.10.2026.

Warranty. Two years from handover (§ 438 (1) no. 3 BGB). For used goods from a business it may be shortened to one year if this is expressly agreed (§ 476 (2) BGB). If a defect shows up in the first year, it is presumed to have been there at purchase (§ 477 BGB).

Cancellation. For contracts made since 1 March 2022: at most one month notice to the end of the minimum term; after that the contract runs indefinitely and can be cancelled at any time with at most one month notice (§ 309 no. 9 BGB). Unlike a withdrawal, the cancellation has to arrive by the deadline, and a weekend does not move it. The calculation is on the safe side: one month before the last day of the contract.

Legal basis. § 187, § 188, § 193, § 355, § 356, § 438, § 476, § 477, § 309 BGB (German law texts, in German). Status 08.10.2026. This is a calculation aid, not legal advice: in a specific case the contract or the law may say otherwise.
